Dr Njoroge feted as best Governor in Africa

Central Bank Governor Dr Patrick Njoroge has been voted Africa’s the central banker of the year, during the 51st Annual Meeting of the African Development Bank in Zambia.

Dr Njoroge, who has served for less than year, has been hailed for his efforts to streamline Kenya’s banking sector.

Since taking office, Dr Njoroge has stressed the need for the regulator to increase oversight on banks. So aggressive has the supervision on banks been that three banks have since October 2015 been placed under receivership with only Chase Bank managing to re-open.

The award is given to the central bank governor who has successfully reformed and transformed the financial sector, through proper regulation and policies, as well as created a stable and predictable environment for investment and growth.

“I dedicate this award to the youth of Africa,” Dr Njoroge said on receiving the award.
