Keroche Breweries reopened after court order

Keroche Breweries CEO Tabitha Karanja has a reason to smile as her Naivasha based plant reopened on Tuesday following a High Court directive.

Led by Nakuru County AP commander Francis Kirathe, officers reopened the brewery that had been shut down two weeks earlier under unclear circumstances.

Speaking to the press after the reopening the plant, the company operations manager Nicholas Kipchirchir said that they had incurred huge losses during the closure.

Kipchirchir asserted that the company would take the matter to court as there was no clear explanation for the closure of the business.

He went further to defend the company’s products stating that their drinks met all the set standards. He promised their customers that the Crescent Brand would be back in the market soon.

When asked who is to blame for the company’s woes, Kipchirchir claimed that some people were working behind the scenes to give their competitors an upper hand in the market.

This comes weeks after Naivasha MP John Kihagi lead police and locals to shut down the factory.

In retaliation, the Keroche’s management went to court seeking to the reopen the brewery. They also sought orders barring the MP, police, NACADA and the provincial administration from interfering with their operations.

Last week, the tax collector had written to the company directing that is ceases manufacturing excisable goods.

The court quashed KRA’s directive and directed the Inspector General of police to remove padlocks, seals and any other gadgets placed on the plant until a case is heard and determined.
