17 ministers lose parliamentary seats as Museveni stretches lead

17 Cabinet Ministers in Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni’s government have lost their seats, according to the latest media reports.

The results have been interpreted as a lack of faith by the electorate in the composition of Museveni’s government.

Museveni, 71, has been in power for 30 years and is on course to stretch his term by a further 5 years with the latest provisional results showing him firmly on the lead with 4,549,148 votes out of the total 7,822, 737 votes counted.

His closest rival Kizza Besigye of the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) is placed second with 2,603,880 while Amama Mbabazi has 112,071.

Among the ministers who have lost their seats are Attorney General Fred Rihundi, Defence Minister Dr. Crispus Kiyonga and State Minister in the office of the Vice President Vincent Nyanzi.
