18 families rendered homeless in Ngomeni floods

18 families in Kilifi County’s Ngomeni area spent the night out in the cold on Friday night after heavy tidal waves in the Indian Ocean flooded their homes.

Experts from the meteorological department say the position of the moon has everything to do with the floods.

The experts warn that the situation could get worse with the El-Nino effect causing sea water levels to rise.

It hasn’t rained in Ngomeni, but there has been massive flooding.

The high tides in the vast Indian Ocean are apparently pushing the sea water onto the mainland.

It was 7 pm when residents sent out a distress call.

According to the meteorological department, the tidal waves are getting bigger and dangerous because of the position of the moon.

The gravitational forces between the Earth and the Moon is what scientists say causes the ocean to rise because it is not rigid to stretch out along the line toward the Moon.

Coupled with this however, is the El- Nino phenomenon.

Residents however believe that a dyke could prevent the sea waters from driving them out of their homes…

Meanwhile Kajiado North constituency is taking the El-Nino alert seriously and has dedicated half a million shillings from the constituency development fund towards the building of bridges on section of the roads where there are culverts.
