2000 litres of illicit brew nabbed at Moi University

Over 2000 liters of illicit brew were yesterday nabbed in Moi University main campus after Uasin Gishu County Government in conjunction with local administration police raided more than 14 dens situated in the campus.

According to Uasin Gishu County Alcoholic Drinks Control Board Director Armstrong Rono, the move came after the board received numerous complaints from the university administration and parents whose children are studying at the institution.

Rono added that the drinking dens were not licensed and issued an ultimatum to all bars situated less than three hundred meters from the learning institution to close down or the face full force of the law.

Moi university students thanked the county government for the destruction of the brews saying that many students have not been going to class due to alcohol abuse.

Through their leaders, the students urged the government not to relent until the vice is eradicated in all learning institutions.

They, however, urged the government not to single out the university but to extend the exercise to other universities.
