Administrator acquitted of stealing relief food

Former Garissa County Deputy Commissioner Dominic Kyenza and his clerk Abdullahi Shariff have today (Wednesday) been acquitted of corruption charges.

The two had been accused by EACC of fraudulently acquiring 270 bags of rice of relief food meant for Umulkheir Children Center and other special needy schools within Garissa sub-county on July last year.

Chief Magistrate Margaret Wachira dismissed the charges under section 2006 of the Criminal Procedure Code (CPC) for non-attendance of the complainant and witnesses and acquitted the accused under section 202 of the CPC.

Addressing the press outside the law courts after the ruling, Kyenza said he was happy that the case was ruled in his favour.

“This case has been a thorn in my flesh and distracted my retirement programmes since I was forced to attend court sessions from time to time,” said the former deputy commissioner.

Kyenza, who has been in service for 40 years, said he knew all along that the charges would not stand and thanked his friends and the public for support.
