All officers are equal irrespective of unit IG Boinett

The Inspector General of Police Joseph Boinett has moved to dispel the superiority battles between the different units of the police force.

Boinett said that there is no need for superiority battles between the Regular Police, the General Service Unit (GSU) and the Administration Police (AP) saying that they are all in one business; to ensure security.

“I want to assure that decisions on allocation of duties to the different police units are informed because different jobs require different resources, depending on the type of work,” said Boinett.

The IG, who was speaking during the Police Transformation Agenda at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre (KICC), called on the different units to work in harmony in order to assure Kenyans of their security.

The police service is known for following strict protocols but during the interactive session, the IG allowed the officers present to make remarks freely.

The officers poured out their frustrations on issues ranging from poor working conditions to lack of allowances and wanting housing.

Boinett, who also called for further reforms in the police service, assured the officers that reforms to address the issues are underway.

“I am insisting the need for us to change. It is very important that we understand where we have been, where we are and where we are going,” said Boinett.

Boinett urged all officers to be professional in execution of their duties if police reforms are to be successful.

“I ask all of us to do our best in whatever role, rank or post.”

The officers expressed optimism that such sessions would help transform a force that has repeatedly been ranked among the most corrupt.
