Anti-FGM advocacy pays off as more girls embrace education in Baringo

The number of girls has increased in schools in Taity, Baringo County despite female genital mutilation (FGM) being rampant in the area, National Aids and Control Council Deputy Director Dr Emmy Chesire has said.

Speaking on Sunday, at Cana Children’s Rescue Center in Nginyang while delivering donations, Dr Chesire lauded area chiefs, non-governmental organizations and professionals who have helped the girls escape the cut.

The NACC boss, who is also the County’s First Lady, said a lot  has been done to ensure that a girl child in the area is educated and saved from early marriage.

She further urged the community to shun FGM and embrace education, as this would uplift the community.

Cana Children’s Rescue Centre is home to over 100 girls who have escaped the cut and early marriage.
