Atwoli accuses Luhya leaders of dividing community

Central Organisation of Trade Unions (COTU) Secretary General Francis Atwoli has accused former National Assembly speaker Kenneth Marende and Cyrus Jirongo of dividing and misleading the Luhya community though their new party, the United Democratic Party (UDP).

In a direct punch to the leaders from western, Atwoli pointed out that the Luhya community is not united and does not speak in one voice politically as each leader was concentrating on individually assuming the presidency come 2017.

Atwoli lamented that leaders from western were not using their wealth of experience as well as their voting block mileage to muscle factions in the region and bring the community together.

He claimed that a case in point was the appointment of Eugene Wamalwa as the Water and Irrigation Cabinet Secretary where despite President Uhuru Kenyatta embracing the Luhya community by appointing Wamalwa, Jubilee insiders were apparently not pleased and had not accepted him.

He said that Wamalwa was defenseless as no one was propping him up as Luhya leaders were bickering and wrangling over petty agendas.

On corruption, Atwoli called on the government not to politicize the issue as it was denying Kenyans jobs and development.
