Coached ICC witnesses were paid Ksh 2,000 to implicate Ruto, Sang

Gatundu South Member of Parliament Moses Kuria has revealed that each witness was paid Ksh 2,000 to testify against the Kenyans facing crimes against humanity charges at the International Criminal Court (ICC).

Speaking at Seum in Cherengany, Trans Nzoia County during a prayer meeting for Deputy President William Ruto and radio journalist Joshua Arap Sang, Kuria revealed the process on how they coached witnesses to testify against ICC suspects.

He castigated both the Party of National Unity (PNU) and Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) for allegedly coaching witnesses for both Waki and Kriegler Commissions.

The TNA MP urged members of the ODM to come out clear and explain what they know about the payment and coaching of witnesses in readiness for the ICC cases.

Kuria also apologized to Sang and his family for the cases facing him at The Hague.

He further noted that it was not the first time he was revealing on how the witnesses were coached adding that he was shocked at how long it has taken ICC prosecutors to know that the witnesses appearing before the court were coached.

“In a TV interview in 2011, I said that I was paying every witness Sh2,000 for Kriegler witnesses. Those are the witnesses that ICC has taken up,” said Kuria.

“We should ask ICC why it took them 5 years to look for me yet I had already talked about bribing the witnesses.”

Kuria dared the court to arrest him saying that will stand for the truth in a bid to see the “innocent people exonerated”.

His sentiments were lauded by Elgeyo Marakwet Senator Kipchumba Murkomen who urged him to reveal the real perpetrators of the 2007/08 clashes that lead to deaths of more than a thousand Kenyans.

On his part, Sang called on Kenyans to pray for him and Ruto so that the truth about their cases may be revealed.

The revelation comes hot on the heels of another pronouncement by Kuria claiming that ICC may have used witnesses from the Kriegler and Waki reports.

Kuria said the witnesses used by the international court were specific for the report and not ICC, adding that the office of the prosecutor at the ICC should have carried out its own investigations.

Kuria has also thanked ICC for contacting him and scheduling a meeting on October 9th, 2015 over the on-going cases.

He said the Speaker of the National Assembly Justin Muturi, has allocated the Parliament Buildings Committee room as the venue for the meeting.

Kuria has been at the centre of a heated debate with CORD luminary Raila Odinga and Narc-Kenya party leader Martha Karua after he linked the two to the on-going cases against William Ruto.

“We all know the violence experienced in 2007 came about because of political differences between PNU and ODM over the contested elections,” said Kuria.

Both ODM, led by their party leader Raila Odinga and Kisumu Senator Anyang Nyong’o, and PNU, led by myself and Martha Karua, sent letters to the ICC with names of individuals suspected to be behind the violence.”

He accused Odinga and Nyong’o of writing a letter to the UN Security Council opposing the deferral of the cases and advising that the suspects be tried at the ICC in The Hague.
