Court remands Gatundu South MP Moses Kuria till Friday

Gatundu South Member of Parliament Moses Kuria has been remanded at the Kilimani Police Station until November 27th pending ruling on bond or bail application he made.

Kuria appeared before the court on Wednesday to answer to charges of incitement to violence and disobedience of law.

Kuria is accused of making inflammatory utterances during a rally in his Gatundu South constituency calling on his constituents to attack anyone who is opposed to National Youth Service (NYS) projects.

Kuria denied the allegations leveled against him with the prosecutor warning against releasing the MP saying he had been charged with similar offences before and warned against any further utterances.

In his submission, Kuria urged the court to allow bail for the accused saying he had a right to bail and bond terms as he is presumed innocent until proven guilty.

He further stated that the nature of the charges are not serious and point at the reason why the Director of Public Prosecution has been hesitant to charge Kuria.

Kuria was arrested on Tuesday and held at the Kilimani Police Station over allegations of incitement to violence.

The arrest comes days after DPP order that Kuria takes a plea over the incident which occurred in July.
