Darajani school teachers refute reports they were summoned by students

Teachers of Darajani Secondary School in Kibwezi have refuted reports doing rounds on social media that they were summoned by students who demanded that the school be closed.

“I don’t know who wrote these reports, they are full of lies. Nothing like that happened in the school,” said Mike Yetor, Kibwezi Sub County deputy county commissioner.

The school’s head teacher Stephen Mwania explained that the students had made posters saying they did not want to sit the county exams, prompting the management to send them home on Monday after an assembly attended by teachers.

“They had done posters saying they don’t want the county exams. So we convened an assembly and I addressed them in the presence of the teachers. We released them peacefully and they went home,” said Mr Mwania.

“So the information doing rounds on social media to the effect that the students took over the school is not true and cannot be true. That is the work of propagandists with ulterior motives,” he added.

According to the information on social media, the students of Darajani Secondary School in Kibwezi had convened an assembly and summoned the teachers.

The reports went on to say that the students told the teachers they do not intend to sit for the exams scheduled for next week, adding that they should appreciate that they have not burnt or destroyed any property.

The posts also say that the students asked the teachers to give a vote of thanks or their good behaviour before walking out of school.
