Destruction not a solution, President tells students

President Uhuru Kenyatta has cautioned students against engaging in destructive activities.

The President said destruction can never provide solutions for problems affecting the society.

President Kenyatta, who spoke when he presided over the President’s Award-Kenya Gold Awards Presentations at State House, urged those who won awards to be good role models for their colleagues.

“There can be nothing that comes from destruction and we have seen that,” said the President when he presided over the ceremony at State House, Nairobi.

He called on those who have gone through the President’s award scheme to be role models by showing the right example so as to build a good future that will make all Kenyans proud.

“What good will your achievements be, what good will your honours be, if you do not use what you have learnt to change this country for the better?” asked the President.

President Kenyatta pledged to raise the programme to international profile to ensure young people in the region also benefit from it.

Youth and Gender Cabinet Secretary Sicily Kariuki said the digital platform introduced to the scheme has made it possible to recruit more young people.

A total of 416 students were presented with awards. They included students from special schools.

The President’s Award-Kenya (PA-K) is an exciting self-development programme available to all young people countrywide equipping them with positive life skills to enable them participate in nation building and build patriotism amongst them.

The scheme runs various projects and it is currently running 10 correctional institutions across the Country with an objective of rehabilitating young offenders and helping them to re-integrate into the society and reducing recidivism.

The Award is a member of the Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award Association, which oversees the Award Programme for young people in over one hundred and twenty countries.

Other speakers included the President’s Award Kenya Executive Director Nellie Munala who said the decentralization of the scheme has made it possible for many youth to participate.
