Duale voices support for Education CS Matiangi

National Assembly Majority leader Aden Duale has thrown his weight behind Education Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i amidst growing pressure from education stakeholders for him to resign over school unrest.

Speaking at County High School during a prize giving ceremony at the institution, Duale criticised the Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT) Secretary General Wilson Sossion for calling for the closure of schools saying the CS does not formulate policies for the government, saying he only represent teachers and not the education system.

He echoed sentiments by CS Matiang’i that cartels are behind the current wave of school unrests, saying the frustration has been caused by efforts to tame exam cheating.

Mr Duale said closing schools will be unfair to many students in the country as only few schools had their dormitories set ablaze while at the same time calling on the police to be vigilant and ensure culprits are brought to justice.

He called on students in Garissa to refrain from burning of their institutions, adding that they should take resources at the schools as their own since they will be used by future generations.
