Education reforms to blame for school fires – MP

Strict education reforms aimed at reforming the education sector are to blame for the recent spate of school fires, a Nakuru MP has said.

Speaking during an inspection of a vocational training institute, Bahati Member of Parliament Kimani Ngunjiri accused former Education Cabinet Secretary Jacob Kaimenyi of failing to streamline the education sector, making it hard to adjust to reforms being made by Education CS Fred Matiang’i.

The legislator urged politicians to stop politicising the school unrests and demanding the closure of schools saying: “It is a huge loss to the education sector so the government along other education stakeholders should find immediate solutions.”

He further called for immediate action to be taken against those found guilty of arson.
