Embu County gets Sh32m water lab

The Ministry of Water and Irrigation has commissioned a Sh32 million water laboratory in Embu County to ensure that clean water is available for consumption by area residents, Water and Irrigation Cabinet Secretary Eugene Wamalwa has said.

Speaking in Embu during a tour of water projects in the area, Mr Wamalwa said that the lab, which was sponsored by the International Fund Development Authority (IFAD), would serve more than four counties in the area, adding that the facility will also see to it that the quality of water being consumed by residents is maintained.

The CS further said that the county has an ambitious project to construct four mega dams including Kamumu, Thuci, Rupigaci and Thambana, which will increase access to water for the residents.

Wamalwa said that the four dams would also benefit residents of Tharaka, Kirinyaga and Kitui counties.

The Project Coordinator for Upper Tana, Muthoni Livingstone, said that a similar lab is being constructed in Muranga, adding that it will help in the fight against waterborne diseases.

Muthoni also said that they have identified various pollution points thus the community can avoid polluting its water sources.
