Embu University donates books worth Ksh 2.5M to schools

Embu University College on Thursday donated books worth Ksh 2.2 million to 28 secondary and tertiary institutions in the county in a bid to cultivate a reading culture among students.

Speaking at the institution during the exercise, Embu University College Principal, Daniel Mugendi, said many schools lack dedicated libraries noting that the University is currently guiding local public schools on how to set up simple but secure libraries to enhance security and easy access of the learning materials.

Mugendi explained that the schools, which include Moi High School-Mbiruri, St James Mayori, Siakago Girls, Kangaru High school, and Jeremiah Nyaga Technical institute will be helped to install a software to automate their libraries to inculcate a reading culture among the residents and youths.

On his side, Embu County Executive Committee Member for Education, Jamleck Muturi, said they were counting on the county mobile library van, which received 5,000 volumes, to enhance success to all the five sub-counties since only Embu town has a public library.

Muturi said the county government will be recommending the best books to be read by the residents especially in the field of business to help boost their business acumen.
