Flood forces Nyahururu families to sleep in the cold

Several families residing within Nyahururu town’s Site Phase-1 Estate spent the night in the cold after their houses were submerged following heavy rains that hit the area.

Household items of unknown value were destroyed by the ranging water as the residents made frantic efforts to secure crucial items and documents.

Speaking to the press this morning as they tried to salvaged some of the goods and items, the residents accused a local road contractor of doing shoddy work in the rehabilitation of the feeder roads leading to the estate. They said he was to blame for the blockage of the drainage systems and the subsequent flooding of their homes.

They have threatened to seek legal redress against the Laikipia County Government for its negligence, if it fails to take stern action against the contractor.

Residents also asked the county to swiftly drain the flood waters as it posed a public health risk.
