Former Wananchi CEO Richard Alden seeks bail in murder case

The prosecution has today (Monday) opposed an application by former Wananchi CEO Richard Alden seeking to be released on bail pending hearing and determination of his case.

In an affidavit by Corporal Mutisya, the court was told that the accused is a foreigner and has no fixed aboard and therefore if released on bail he will not attend court proceedings.

The prosecution therefore wants Alden to remain in remand until the murder case is concluded.

Alden, however, through his lawyer Cliff Ombeta, opposed the application insisting that prosecution had no evidence to prove that his client is a flight risk.

Alden who was arrested on the 4th of this month and later arraigned before the court pleaded not guilty to killing 42-year-old Grace Wangechi.

The 53-year-old Alden told police that Wangechi shot herself, though preliminary investigations showed that two of her fingers, the left thumb and ring finger, were fractured.

Police recovered spent cartridges at Alden’s house and confiscated his pistol as well as 34 bullets.

Judge Jessy Lesit will rule on the bail application on 30th June, 2016.
