Four injured as Al Shabaab destroy communication mast in Mandera

Suspected Al Shabaab militants early Thursday raided Fino Town in Mandera County destroying a communication mast and engaged police officers in a shootout.
Police say the suspected terrorists escaped after the incident.
Speaking to Citizen TV on phone, Mandera Deputy County Commissioner, Eric Oronyi, confirmed that the mast had been destroyed and four people injured.
“In the morning when we got information, we went there in company of KDF soldiers to assess the situation and secure the area. The Al Shabaab militants had laid an ambush for us and one of our vehicles stepped a landmine leading to injuring of four people,” said Oronyi.
He said that tension in the area remain high as residents are now in fear of attack by the terror group fighters whom he says might be within the area.
Police believe the militants, who are said to have crossed the border from Somalia, targeted the mast to cut communication in the area and subsequently effect an attack.
This is the second time such an incident, targeting communication masts, has been reported in the area.
