Governor Mutua officially launches Maendeleo Chap Chap

Machakos Governor, Dr. Alfred Mutua, is set to launch his Maendeleo Chap Chap Movement at the Bomas of Kenya in Nairobi.

Speaking before the launch, Mutua said that the party aims at ensuring development in the country and improve living standards for Kenyans.

“Our aim is to improve living standards for Kenyans by making sure they have access to water, infrastructure, food and hospitals,” he said.

He attributed the increased levels of poverty in the country to corruption saying his manifesto seeks to tame wasteful spending and ensure service delivery to the people.

“You find a contractor claiming millions of shillings for constructing one kilometer of road yet the same can be made for less. This is daylight robbery,” he said.

On why he excluded political leaders from the list of speakers at the launch, Mutua said his aim is to focus mainly on development and not politics.

He said that the party has roots in 47 counties adding that over 3,000 delegates were attending the meeting.

The Governor, who was elected on Wiper party (an affiliate party in CORD) ticket, has been under attack since first launching the Maendeleo Chap Chap Movement last year.

Though he has dismissed claims that his movement stands for political ideologies, his close affiliation with Jubilee, and promise to support President Uhuru Kenyatta in the 2017 General Election, have been interpreted to mean otherwise.

It is seen that Mutua’s move is aimed at countering Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka’s influence in the larger Ukambani region and eat into CORD votes.

Kalonzo has, however, rubbished Mutua’s move saying he will not survive in his plot to divide the region.
