Govt sets up three police posts in Samburu

The government has set up three police posts in Samburu North sub-county in order to address the rising cases of insecurity and banditry.

The police posts have been erected in what is viewed as the ‘banditry corridors’ used by cattle rustlers in the troubled northern frontier.

Over the last one month, at least nine people were killed and seven others injured by cattle rustlers in the area.

Rift Valley Regional Coordinator, Mr Mussiambo Wanyama, said the police posts will play a critical role in curbing banditry.

Wanyama, who met Kenya Police Reservists (KPRs) and chiefs from the troubled area, said the three new police posts are located at Suyian, Lorruko and Masikita areas and police officers have already been deployed there.

He added that apart from constructing the police posts, armoured vehicles will also be allocated to each of the police posts to help in the recovery mission in case of a cattle theft.

“The government has adopted these measures to restore confidence and peace for people who fled their villages due to insecurity,” he said.

He urged the communities living in the region to cooperate with police officers to ensure that the 12 camels and 97 cattle that were stolen during cattle raid in November last year are recovered.

“Perpetrators and inciters must be arrested and prosecuted according to the law,” he added.
