Gov’t to build Sh50m dams in Embu – DP Ruto

The National Government is set to construct three mega dams in Embu County at cost of Sh50 billion in an effort to address water shortage in the county, Deputy President William Ruto has said.

According to DP Ruto, the dams whose construction is expected to begin before the end of the year after the procurement process is complete include Kamumu, Thabana, Ripigazi and Thuci.

“We have started the procurement process for the dams and the tenders have been advertised. We are now waiting for the time to lapse so we can begin the dams’ construction,” he said.

Ruto said the three dams would help solve the water shortage problem currently facing the county.

At the same time, the deputy president said that Sh725 million would be used to improve the Embu Level 5 Hospital, adding that Ishiara Hospital has also received Sh380 million to build and facilitate a theatre.

“You have been going to Nairobi for dialysis and radiology but we as a government have invested in these facilities to save you the journey,” he said.

“We have put Sh380 million to build a theatre and for other facilities at Ishiara Hospital so that you don’t have to look for those services elsewhere,” he added.
