Thirty suspects arrested, over 12,000 litres of illicit brew nabbed in Homa Bay
Police in Homa Bay County have arrested 30
suspects and nabbed more than 12,000 litres of illicit brew at a local den in
Nyambare village within Rangwe sub-county.
The
suspects, comprising both men and women, were arrested in a joint operation led
by Homa Bay County Commissioner Moses Lilan and County Police Commander Samson
Kinne on Tuesday.
The
multi-agency team drawn from both the police and National Government Administration Officers found the suspects brewing the alcoholic drinks in a large bush
situated along river Rangwe.
The
officers managed to confiscate 12,550 litres of illicit brew consisting of
11,550 litres of a local brew known as kangara and 1,000 litres of chang’aa.
They
also nabbed 100 kg of jaggery used for manufacturing the brew and two
motorcycles used for transporting it.
Addressing
journalists at Home Bay Police Station, Mr. Lilan warned residents against
production and consumption of illicit brews in the county.
He said anybody found committing the crime
will have to face the punitive consequences.
The suspects are presently detained at the Homa
Bay Police Station from where they will be arraigned in court.
