Kiambu leaders threaten to storm Boinett’s office over rising insecurity

A section of leaders from Kiambu County have decried the rising cases of insecurity in Ruiru and adjacent areas and called on the government to beef up security in the area.

Led by Kabete Member of Parliament Ferdinand Waititu, the leaders have attributed the rising number of killings and theft to police laxity.

Waititu now wants the national government to increase the number of police officers in the area and security patrols also taken a notch higher.

Ruiru MP Esther Gathogo threatened to marshal residents to march to Inspector General of Police Joseph Boinett’s office to demand that immediate action be taken if nothing is done within the next 21 days.

“We are going to work together as MPs and move to the IG’s office to seek clarification on all these issues. We don’t want to hear stories of people being killed by thugs in Kiambu,” said Ms Gathogo.

The two were speaking during the burial of John Waweru, one of the residents shot dead by armed assailants when he dropped off one of his employees.

Waweru was a human rights activist and director of the controversial Githunguri Ranch.

Thika MP Alice Ng’ang’a, who also attended the burial, called on police to conduct thorough investigations and ensure those behind the brutal murder are brought to book.
