Kiambu MPs welcome IEBC commissioners planned exit

Three Kiambu County members of parliament have welcomed the resignation of IEBC commissioners, adding that their replacements should not be nominated by political parties as this would cause anarchy.

The MPs – Ferdinand Waititu ( Kabete), Jude Jomo (Kiambu Central) and Njoroge Baiya (Githunguri) – also said the replacement of the commissioners will not impact the outcome of the General Election since voters are the ones who will make the final decision in the 2017 poll.

“The issue of who will supervise the election or who will count the votes since the electoral body is just a mere referee while the final say lies with the voter,” said Jomo.

They said that Jubilee Party enjoys the support of a majority of Kenyans, arguing that the ‘political exodus’ taking place is proof of this popularity. The three said that in addition to the party’s popularity, the political realignments have been borne out of President Uhuru Kenyatta and DP William Ruto’s desire to unite the country.

Watitu said the exit of the commissioners will deny the opposition a chance to say the elections were rigged.

Jomo said Jubilee stands to win the next elections, and he urged Uhuru and Ruto’s supporters to come out in large numbers to vote overwhelmingly for the duo. He went on to state that the party would get over 80% of all votes cast.

“All am asking you to do is to prepare to vote Uhuru and Ruto back to State House since we have the votes” added Jomo.

He said he was optimistic that the recruitment of the new commission will be fast tracked so that it does not interfere with the election date.

The three were speaking in Kigongo village Gatundu South during the burial of Jomo’s maternal grandmother, the late Elizabeth Magiri Kangethe. She passed on last week at the age of 115.
