Kileleshwa residents protest construction of commercial complex despite court order
Mwingi Court
residents in Kileleshwa on Sunday protested the illegal construction of a
commercial building in what they term a residential area.
The
residents decry the resumption of the building’s construction despite a court
order stopping any further construction.
They claim
that the building was being constructed day and night, causing noise pollution
in the area, as well as the destruction of mature trees in the process.
“We have
not seen the authorisation from the county government and we do not want the
structure here. We would like the County Government of Nairobi to look into
this matter and stop the development of the commercial structure,” said Julius
Musyoka, a resident.
Lucy Mwangi,
another Mwingi Court resident added: “Right opposite us we have a structure,
that is coming up. We actually don’t know what it is, there is no stakeholder
participation and we are very concerned because this is a residential area, we
have all raised our children some of us have very young children.”
