Koffi Olomide may be banned from Kenya- Nkaissery

Interior Cabinet Secretary Joseph Nkaissery has said that police are investigating past assault cases facing deported Congolese musician Koffi Olomide.

Speaking on phone with Citizen Digital, the CS said that Koffi might be permanently banned from Kenya.

“If someone breaks the law, then justice must be served. He was arrested yesterday (Friday) and we made sure that today (Saturday), he was deported. He is already on a plane together with other artists that had accompanied him,” said Nkaissery.

The Congolese artist has in the past been accused of rape and physical assault.

Olomide is banned from performing in France following those allegations.

A history of violence?

In 2012, Olomide was given a three-month suspended prison sentence for assaulting his producer, Diego Lubaki, in Kinshasa, Congo.

In the same year, AFP reported that a French judge had charged the singer with rape.

“A French judge has charged Congolese music star Koffi Olomide with three counts of rape and illegal confinement after complaints from three of his former backup dancers,” read the report.

Olomide denied the claims, saying they were “empty and hollow. There is no material evidence and the statements of the three women who accuse him of rape contain numerous contradictions.”
