Man attempts to escape from court to evade fine

Milimani Court prison warders on Tuesday botched an attempted escape by a handcuffed prisoner.

The man jumped out of police vehicle when they were being lined up to make first appearance in court.

In a short interview by the Milimani court officer in charge, the man said he was arrested after police mistook him for a conductor after he was found sitting in the conductor’s seat on a Rongai-bound matatu.

He said that he had attempted to escape since he did not have fine to pay.

The man, who only identified himself as Lameck, is in police custody.
