Man lynched for raping 50-year-old woman

Residents of Manyatta village lynched a 20-year-old man accused of raping a 50-year-old woman.

Confirming the incident, Embu North OCPD James Karisa said that the suspect, Kennedy Mukundi, managed to enter the woman’s house at midnight, hitting her with a blunt object before committing the heinous act.

“The woman fell after he was hit by the suspect. It is at that point that he raped her. When she regained consciousness, she raised an alarm attracting the attention of her neighbours who beat him up,” he said.

Police arrived at the scene and took the suspect to Embu Level Five hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.

Speaking on Monday, the woman revealed that she was attacked while seated in her sitting room.

“When I heard someone walking outside I decided to open the door but I did not realize that I had given the suspect an opportunity to gain entrance into the house. He hit me and I fell, when I regained consciousness I screamed attracting neighbors who came to my rescue,” she said.

Karisa said incidences of young men attacking elderly and single women with the aim of rapping them are on the rise in the area adding that police are on high alert and will be closing in on those out to commit the act.

Last December, it was reported that a 40-year-old woman at Shinyalu in Kakamega County was found dead with police investigations indicating that she had been raped before being hacked to death.
