Marsabit leaders to unveil new political alliance

Leaders from Marsabit County will next month unveil an alliance in their bid to ascend into leadership in the 2017 General Election.

Speaking during a fundraiser for Burji women groups in Moyale Town, Marsabit Governor Ambassador Ukur Yattani said the coalition, which will be represented by 14 communities in the region, will seek to battle it out favourably with other aspirants.

Yattani further added that the communities will form a progressive and strong political realignment that will establish the next county leadership, intimating that about 3,000 delegates from the 14 tribes will meet in August
at the Marsabit stadium to produce a line-up for different political seats. He has expressed interest in running for governor for a second time.

The delegates will also decide on which party the alliance will use as a campaign vehicle ahead of the polls.

Yattani further instructed communities to vet their candidates within two weeks and produce a suitable aspirant before the annual meeting.
