More arson cases as Langata, Ruiga schools burnt

At least six students suffered minor injuries after a section of Langata High School dormitory that hosts 200 students went up in flames Sunday evening destroying property of unknown value.

The fire, which started a few minutes to 7pm Sunday, quickly spread to all parts of the dormitory which is the newest building in the school.

Langata OCPD Elaijah Maina said that the authorities are investigating the cause of the fire and anyone found culpable in the suspected arson case will be dealt with in accordance with the law.

The injured students, he said, had been rushed to nearby health centres for medication and were safe.

At the same time, two dormitories, a science laboratory and a dining hall were set ablaze by unknown persons at Ruiga Girls Secondary School in Meru County.

According to the Kenya Red Cross Mt Kenya region manager Gitonga Mugambi, the incident may have been an organised arson attack by students.

The students left the school immediately after the fire was reported.

Fire incidents were also reported at Kijabe High School, Kiambu, Ndani Secondary School in Bomet and Ilani Secondary School in Makueni on Sunday evening.
