Mudavadi calls on Western community to challenge for presidency

Amani National Congress leader Musalia Mudavadi has called on the Western region community to challenge for the presidency.

Mudavadi said that the Western region should gather courage, self-belief and a sense of pride in their approach to national politics.

“You are not children of a lesser god to continue playing second fiddle in the competition for national recognition. Let’s register for IDs, acquire voting cards and vote as a block for our best candidate”, he said.

Mudavadi urged the Luhya community to dispel the notion that leaders in the region were competing against themselves, saying the race in not about who is the king of Western region but who can attract national support.

He castigated Parliament for supposedly ‘playing’ with the lives of sugarcane farmers by not debating on the report about the controversial Kenya-Uganda sugar deal.

“That report has critical recommendations on how to reduce the cost of sugar production and increase efficiency in factories and curb corruption for the benefit of the farmer.”

“Parliament had an opportunity to seal loopholes in the rules of origin to ensure no cheap sugar is dumped in the market.”

He further asked the Commission for the Implementation of the Constitution (CIC) to hold a national conference and give the country a chance to audit gains made in the implementation of the constitution.

The former Deputy Prime Minister was speaking during a meeting with over 500 opinion leaders from the Butere/Mumias area in Kakamega County, led by King Nabongo of the Mumia Kingdom in Matungu.
