Mutua steps up Maendeleo Chap Chap rallies

Machakos Governor Dr. Alfred Mutua insists his Maendeleo Chap Chap campaign will go on, despite the resistance it has met from supporters of the Wiper Party and Cord co-principal Kalonzo Musyoka.

Mutua says he was not in any way attempting to wrestle the Ukambani political mantle from Musyoka, and was only trying to introduce a fresh brand of politics based on development in Ukambani region.

Mutua broke into tears over what he termed as retrogressive politics in Ukambani, despite his critics accusing him of being a master of public relations and theatrics.

The Machakos Governor, accompanied by five Ukambani lawmakers held a consultative session with delegates from Kitui County at Machakos people’s park.

The Maendeleo Chap Chap slogan and activities have been seen as Mutua’s attempt to snatch the Ukambani political trophy from Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka, ahead of the 2017 polls.

He claims the initiative had unsettled Musyoka and his allies, and were now trying to scuttle it through propaganda.

“There some top Kamba leaders who have been holding meetings day and night strategizing on how how to kill this movement of Maendeleo Chap Chap. these leaders are working on how to spread propaganda to stop this movement. As they are holding their meetings we are also holding ours on how to ensure development is achieved. They are playing politics of poverty as we play politics of development,” said Mutua.

Mutua has drawn to his camp a number of Ukambani MPs and county assembly members, amid claims that he was the jubilee point man in the region, to unsettle Musyoka and chip his influence in the 2017 polls.

Musyoka delivered more than 1 million votes to Cord presidential candidate Raila Odinga in the 2013 race to State House.

Mutua and the 8 MPs present questioning Musyoka’s development credentials and benefits his long stint in government had brought to the region.

“It is time for development in Ukambani region and the journey to Canaan has already began and those trying to stop us will be dealt with just the way the red sea dealt with pharaoh and his men who tried to stop the Israelites. I want to tell them that god’s plans cannot be stopped by human beings,” said Mutua.
