Nandi County to pass Environmental Bills

The county government of Nandi has prepared four bills which when once implemented, will ensure the county embark on serious conservation and generate more revenue.

Nandi county Executive on Lands, Environment and Natural Resources Dr. John Chumo said that the County Government plans to have Water ,Solid Waste, Forestry and Wetlands Bills  passed in line with 2010 constitution which required every county to have a unique laws to protect  natural resources.

Speaking during a two-day workshop in Kapsabet attended by stakeholders from Nature Kenya, Kenya Forestry service, Kenya wildlife service , the Ministry of Agriculture among others, Chumo said that water from Nandi county which serves surrounding  counties such as Busia, Kisumu,Vihiga and Kakamega could generate millions of shillings after the new Bills are passed.

Kapsabet and other towns in Nandi have suffered serious pollution from solid waste and environmental degradation.

Nandi County is endowed with various wetlands that house the rare special of antelopes “Sitatunga”

The project is a partnership between the Nandi County government and Nature Kenya.
