Ngilu I will vie for Kitui governor seat

Former Lands Cabinet Secretary and NARC leader Charity Ngilu has said that she will vie for the Kitui County gubernatorial seat in the 2017 General Election.

Speaking during an interview on Citizen TV on Sunday, Ngilu said since she left government office in 2015 she has been focusing on promoting her party, NARC, in the grassroots in preparation for next year’s General Election as she waits for court cases against her to wind up.

“Since I am not in government I have been speaking to Ukambani residents promoting the party’s ideologies which are food, water, women empowerment and education,” she said.

The NARC leader stated that she would use her party to seek election but noted that it was too early to say which coalition she would join.

“It’s too early to say which coalition I will join, tt is time for me to sell my manifesto and ideology,” she noted.

She noted that even though the Jubilee Government has fulfilled some of the promises it made to the electorate, people in mashinani were still suffering, adding that she would like to work to alleviate the suffering.

“What we fought for is sometimes not felt at the grass roots. For instance what is happening in schools,” she said.

She pointed out that youths still lack jobs and are living in poverty, adding that the situation needs to be addressed.

Commenting on the CORD coalition, Ngilu said CORD leader Raila Odinga is a leader of Kenya and has done a good job keeping the government in check.

The former Lands CS told Citizen TV that her case was not thoroughly investigated before it went to court, adding that her entire case revolved around a file and she was charged with obstruction of justice and not graft.

She further blamed cartels for her woes saying there were people who did not want to see land reforms in the country.

Ngilu stepped aside in 2015 over allegations of graft at the Lands office and her case is still in court.
