No ECDE classrooms in Migori County

Four years after the inception of the devolved system of governance, majority of nursery school pupils in Migori County are either taking their studies in churches or under trees for lack of classrooms.

The County Government of Migori is yet to commence the construction of Early Childhood Development (ECD) classes despite this function being devolved.

A random check by Ramogi FM shows that many of public nursery schools are either using churches or learn under tree with teachers complaining of difficulties in delivering on their mandate.

According to Migori County Director of Education, Lazarus Ogutu, the county government has not been able to build each public school an ECD classroom due to limited resources.

Ogutu said that the construction of the ECD classes is done upon request by the members of the public and the area Ward Representative adding that they have to assess if the school urgently needs a classroom or not.

The director also admitted that some ECD classrooms that were started two years ago have stalled as the contractors failed to deliver on their tenders.

However, Ogutu, assured the residents that the county is working with school managements to ensure such classes are constructed.
