ODM postpones grassroots elections

The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) has postponed its grassroots elections that were slated to start on the 1st to the 4th of August, 2015.

Speaking during a press conference at Orange house on behalf of the party’s National Elections Board, Nancy Abisaye said that elections in Marsabit, Wajir, Kajiado, Migori, Kilifi and Vihiga counties will now be held on 29th to the 2nd of September and not as earlier announced.

Abisaye also pointed out that the exercise would kick off in Nairobi separately from the 5th to the 8th of September, while Vihiga County will be exempted from the exercise as it will be holding an important cultural activity.

She called for patience as the decision had been arrived at having considered all factors, including the postponement of elections in the counties of Wajir, Marsabit and Kilifi due to the Islamic fast on the holy month of Ramadan.

Abisaye added that the party has received massive applications from contestants vying for the seats as well as huge interests from the public.

The second batch of elections will be announced at a later date.
