Over 200 displaced by floods in Bondo

Over 200 people have been displaced and their crops destroyed in West Yimbo Location, Bondo sub-County following floods caused by the heavy rains being experienced in different parts of the country.

The affected people are now living in makeshift tents, with most of them expressing fears that they are faced with starvation due to the destruction of their crops.

They are now appealing to the government, NGOs and other well-wishers to come to their aid.

West Yimbo MCA Willis Ochieng challenged the national and county governments to support the affected families using the disaster management funds.

He further called on the area member of Parliament to liaise with the national government through the Kenya National Highway Authority to find a way of repairing Goye Bridge, which he said will allow the easy flow of River Yala into Lake Victoria.

Meanwhile, ten families at Kagio area in Kirinyaga County were left homeless after heavy rains caused massive flooding in the area.

The rains caused flooding at Kagio Police Station and swept away Rwamuthambi Bridge.

Elsewhere, four people were seriously injured on Monday after a wall collapsed at Likuyani in Kakamega County owing to the heavy rains pounding the area and other parts of the country.

Hundreds of people have also been left homeless as property and harvest were destroyed due to the heavy rain and floods.

Residents are now appealing to the authorities to avail sanitary facilities and clean water.
