Over thirty people contract anthrax in Nakuru County

Thirty people have contracted anthrax at Lengenet area of Rongai, Nakuru County.

Rongai Sub County Veterinary Officer, Martin Karate, confirmed the cases saying that about 30 to 36 people are being treated of anthrax at Lengenet Health Centre.

The veterinary department in Nakuru also confirmed that at least 10 cattle died from the disease.

Karate called upon livestock farmers to exercise caution and involve veterinary officers whenever they read signs of the disease in their animals.

“Those affected contracted Anthrax through contact with carcasses,” he explained.

He indicated that public health officers have been notified and have managed to reach the affected people in a bid to stop the spread of the disease.

Last year, at  the Lake Nakuru National Park, anthrax killed over 100 buffaloes and two rhinos threatening safety of grazers.
