Parents demand ouster of school principal over graft

Over one hundred parents of Kanyamedha Mixed Secondary School in Kisumu County stormed a meeting at the school on Sunday afternoon demanding the ouster of the school’s principal.

The parents stormed the meeting that had been organised by a Kisumu County official carrying placards and twigs in a bid to evict the school’s principal Caroline Oriwa over claims of misappropriating school funds.

Central Kisumu Ward Representative Pamela Jossy and Kisumu East Chief Aloyce Aboge who were in attendance tried to calm the irate parents but to no avail.

The two leaders urged the parents to leave the school and wait for the issue to be solved in an amicable manner, with the area chief accusing people who posed as parents in the school of fueling the conflict.

Police who later arrived at the scene rescued Ms Carolyne Oriwa from the mob.

This comes barely two weeks after anti-riot police officers were forced to escort the principal Carolyne Oriwa after a section of parents attempted to evict her from the school forcibly over the same issue.
