Parents free to pay school fees using mobile money- Kipsang

The Ministry of Education has stated that parents are free to pay school fees through mobile money transfer services.

Education Principal Secretary Belio Kipsang, however, said all schools must issue receipts to parents when they pay school fees using the mobile money transfer services.

In a statement to the media, Kipsang said Education Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiangi was misquoted on the matter on Friday during a visit at Homa Bay Primary School.

“Public schools are required under the school fees guideline the Ministry has issued, to provide receipts against all payments they receive, be it the direct payments the government payment makes to schools under the Free Primary and Free Day secondary education  programmes, or the fees parents and guardians pay,” read the statement in part.

“Schools are hereby encouraged to continue receiving payments from parents in whatever modes they find suitable for them as long as they give receipts to parents and guardians as required,” read the statement.

On Friday, media outlets reported that the government has banned paying of school fees using mobile transfer services.
