Pastor charged with defiling seven-year old niece

An Anglican Reverend serving at the Embu Diocese has been arraigned in court and charged with defiling a minor at the Spring Valley Estate in Embu town.

The 37-year-old Elijah Gichangi, who appeared before Principal Magistrate Robinson Oigara, was charged that on the 19^th of April, 2016, he allegedly defiled his seven-year-old niece. He, however, denied the charges.

Gichangi, through his lawyer Wairimu Rugaita, asked the court to release him on bond arguing that he has a young family to take care of.

The lawyer also asked the prosecution to supply him with the revelant case documents and witness statements to be used in the trial.

Gichangi was released on a Ksh 100,000 bond with a surety of similar or cash bail of Ksh 50,000.

The case will be heard on May 30th this year.
