PHOTOS: Release of 2015 KCPE examinations
The 2015 KCPE results were released on Wednesday by Education Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i.
While releasing the 2015 KCPE results the Education Cabinet Secretary Dr Fred Matiang’i noted that public schools performance has declined with at least seven points to record an average of 180 points.
In his address Joseph Kivilu the Chief Executive Officer of the Kenya National Examination Council (KNEC) he noted that KNEC administers about 20 exams yearly.
A total of 499,000 girls sat for the KCPE while the boys were at 467,904 and gender equality was considered in all the counties, with Knec CEO noting that the exams were administered successfully across the country and those who were involved in cheating will have their exams withheld.
Kivilu also said that 157 persons including teachers, police and candidates have already been charged in court for engaging in exam irregularities.
Sh2.9 billion was used to fund this years KCPE examinations, the highest amount in 25 years.

Absentiseem of teachers has affected the performance of this years KCPE examination.
Teachers’ promotion will now be based on performance instead of times spent in service.
The number of candidates has increased from 880,486 in 2014 to 927,789 in 2015 with female candidates performing marginally better than their male counterparts in English language, English composition, Kiswahili language and Kiswahili insha.
