Police impostor arrested in Rongo

Police in Rongo on Monday arrested a man pretending to be a police officer following a tip-off from members of the public.

Confirming the incident, Rongo OCPD Kisaka Muganda said the impostor, identified only as Omondi, was in hiding in Rongo Town after escaping from a police vehicle two months ago.

The suspect, who was found in possession of more than seven police uniforms and other stolen property, had escaped from a police vehicle when he and other inmates were being ferried from Migori Law Courts to Rongo.

Kisaka, however, admitted that the suspect was able to escape due to laxity on the part of the police officers on duty, adding that an investigation to establish the circumstances surrounding the escape is underway.

The police boss further assured the public that the force was committed to flushing out police impostors who are reportedly harassing Rongo residents.
