Police seal off entry point at Democratic National Convention

Police early Wednesday morning  sealed off a major entry point to the Democratic National Convention perimeter at the Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia after more than 100 protesters moved toward the iron gates and began a nonviolent sit-in at a security checkpoint.

Officers in riot gear lined up inside the fence after a handful of demonstrators blocked off access to the street following a brief appearance and speech by Green Party presidential candidate Jill Stein.

There was some confusion even among the protesters, some of them asking for others to clear the area and allow Bernie Sanders delegates who walked out after the afternoon roll call to re-enter the convention.

But others — many in Sanders and Stein shirts and hats — are trying to clear the exit for delegates they say want to join protests in FDR park across the street.

Police on horse, bike and motorcycle have flooded Broad Street as a number of demonstrations converged on the busy thoroughfare where delegates enter and exit the convention.
