Pray for me and Kenya, President Kenyatta to Pope Francis

President Uhuru Kenyatta has asked Pope Francis to pray for him as he leads the nation as well as pray for the challenges facing Kenya.

Speaking during a joint address with Pope Francis at State House in Nairobi, President Kenyatta further asked the Pope to pray for the country to that “God may heal us and heal the land.”

The Head of State also took the opportunity to welcome the Pope to Kenya during his first visit to Kenya and Africa.

He expressed appreciation for the role played by the Church in development singling out the extensive contribution by the Catholic Church to the country’s education and health sectors as a key to the country’s growth.

President Kenyatta further stated that there has been willingness in Kenya to fight corruption saying civil society, media and religious leaders have joined in the fight to end graft.

He said; “At the heart of conflict there is a desire for human dignity. We’ve been divided by out ethnic composition.”

He praised the Church for the active roles it plays in making Kenya a better place for humanity.

“The Church is our largest non-state provider for health care with 500 health care units and orphanages that cater for vulnerable children,” he said.

President Kenyatta had special praises for Nobel Peace Prize Laureate the late Wangari Mathaai whom he said was a warrior for nature.
