Rasanga calls for sobriety ahead of 2017 polls

Siaya Governor Cornel Rasanga has called upon political leaders eyeing various elective posts to steer clear of divisive politics ahead of 2017 General Elections.

Rasanga, who was speaking at Nyilima grounds during a fundraising in aid of over 120 women groups from East Asembo Ward in Rarieda constituency, asked the leaders to embrace one another and promote their political ambitions peacefully.

The Siaya Governor said that they should avoid use of insulting words and statements that could incite their supporters against each other.

He insisted that political aspirants should engage in mature political debate by discussing manifestos and development track records, instead of name calling.

While noting that all aspirants are free to drum up support from any part of the county, Rasanga urged the electorate to ensure they vote for development-conscious leaders.

He further urged youth who have attained the age of 18 to ensure they acquire national ID cards and register as voters in preparation for the 2017 General Elections.

He said that his government would sponsor another ID and voter registration exercise across the entire county, and therefore the youths should seize that opportunity to ensure they obtain the vital documents.
