Security officials launch drugs crackdown in Malindi

Security agents in Malindi, Kilifi County Monday evening started a crackdown on drug dens as directed by President Uhuru Kenyatta last week.

The crackdown was led by Malindi Deputy County Commissioner Gideon Ombong’i, OCPD Matawa Muchangi, Malindi DCIO Paul Wachira among other security officials.

The operation started at Mwembe Tayari and Kisumu Ndogo estates where 32 sachets of heroin with an estimated value of Ksh 76,000 were netted and a woman arrested.

Police also recovered huge amount of money stashed in a paper bag in assorted denominations of 50 and 100 shillings notes.

Ombong’i said that police had also nabbed sacks of bhang at Lango Baya area which is approximately forty kilometers from Malindi town.

He said that they are effecting the President’s directive since drug abuse has become a menace in the coast.

The Deputy Commissioner added that the crackdown will continue until all drug dens in the town are cleared.

He lauded members of the public for their cooperation in the operation saying that security agencies will work closely with them so that the illicit trade is completely eradicated.

The most notorious drug hot spots in the resort town are Muyeye, Shella, Maweni, Kisumu Ndogo, Kwa Chocha, Kwa Ndomo, Takaye, Mutangani, Msabaha, Kijiwe Tanga,Ganda, Lango Mbaya, Gede, Kakuyuni and Watamu.
