Siaya traders protest rising insecurity

Traders in Siaya town have threatened to hold demonstrations to protest the increasing rate in insecurity in the region.

Led by chairperson of the Kenya National Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KNCCI) Siaya County branch Roseline Omuga, they accused the police of doing very little to protect the traders and their properties.

Omuga cited the recent murder of a 27-year-old trader at Awelo trading center in the outskirts of Siaya town, saying that the police must now come out to contain the situation failure to which they (traders) will take to the streets.

The chairperson said security agencies in the region are silent in the face of rising insecurity.

Omuga, who was speaking in Siaya town, asked police to expedite investigations into the recent murder of that trader to ensure his killers are arrested and prosecuted.
